Joe G's Cover Xplosion
Humane Society fund raiser an excellent showcase
Take a smorgasboard of rock and roll sub-genres, add in some highly talented local musicians and a dose of a caring cause against animal cruelty and what you end up with is the Joe G's Cover Explosion, a twice-a-year event that benefits the North Carolina Humane Society and Suzi's Law for cracking down on animal abuse.
The second Joe G' Cover Explosion took place this past Friday night at the Greene Street Club in downtown Greensboro with an eclectic mix of bands being covered by... local bands. 90's heavy metal underground band Helmet was first up, pounding through each song on their short set before giving way to the Zombie's.The musicians who for the most part dressed in the fashion and style of the late 60's iconic rock band were dead on (sorry for the pun) with their covers of Zombies hits "She's Not There" and "Time of the Season."
80's new wave/rock icons the Pretenders took the stage following the Zombies and performed a mesmerizing set that included some of the band's big hits such as "Middle of the Road" from 1984's Learning to Crawl album.
Other performances Friday included the Othermothers covering the Replacements (complete with commentary), Green Day and the Stratocruiser covering Alice Cooper.
If you didn't get a chance to go Friday night or if you're wondering what it is all about then check out some of the video clips of each group at the links below. Look for announcements in the new year about the Spring 2011 version of Joe G's Cover Explosion!
